Addressing skin imperfections with microneedling at our skin clinic

Microneedling is still a relatively new procedure in dermatology, first developed in 1994 it quickly established itself as a positive method of restoring youthfulness, addressing scarring and improving the look of the skin. Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy and here at our skin clinic Surrey you can find out about microneedling to help improve your skin and boost your self-confidence and self-esteem.

It works by creating tiny holes in the skin and initiates the process of wound healing, which can generate growth factors in the skin and boost the development of collagen. This is why it is known as collagen induction. It also promotes the formation of new blood vessels to help the healing process and, therefore, it improves the look and health of your skin. Microneedling is excellent for scars such as acne scars and stretch marks and it is used for anti-ageing and helping to disguise fine lines and wrinkles. By creating little holes in the skin it promotes the efficient delivery of topical ingredients like antioxidants and here at our skin clinic Surrey we offer a range of different facials that you can have to help improve your skin further.

At the Skin Studio, we offer a microneedling treatment course of 6 sessions, spread out over 2 to 4 week intervals to help reduce fine lines, wrinkles and scars. It is an excellent treatment for skin rejuvenation. Fine lines and wrinkles occur as a result of many different reasons which include sun exposure, as well as the natural ageing process. A series of 6 treatments helps you reduce wrinkles and fine lines and assists to restore a youthful appearance. We can also help improve the look of stretch marks with microneedling procedures. Stretch marks occur as a result of thinning in the deeper layers of the skin or atrophy of the skin, therefore, they are a type of scarring which is difficult to correct with the use of oils and creams. Microneedling can help improve stretch marks and also increases the efficacy of the oils and creams, where they are able to get deeper into your skin for better results.

How is microneedling carried out?

Firstly the area of skin will be washed and cleansed to prevent makeup particles, bacteria or any pathogens getting into the deeper layer of your skin. By creating a wound in the skin there is a potential for infection, although this is very low with microneedling. A topical anaesthetic will be applied to your skin so that you cannot feel the needles. A hyaluronic acid gel can also be applied to the face before using the device to make it easier for it to be rolled over your skin smoothly. The depth of the needles will be chosen according to the area being treated and the factors affecting your skin. The device is then rolled over the area to create tiny holes in your skin. Once the procedure is complete you may experience some redness or slight inflammation, however, this should disappear within the next couple of days. Sometimes a single microneedling session is sufficient, but at our skin clinic Surreywe also offer a course of 6 treatments to help boost skin health.
