FAQs about microneedling answered by our skin clinic

Do you have fine lines that you want to get rid of? Have you tried a wide range of face creams to no avail?

You may think that the only way left for you to get rid of your wrinkles is to use a facelift, or another type of invasive surgery. But don’t worry! There are lots of facial aesthetics treatments that are still open to you, that will not require you to have surgery or any other extensive procedure.

One of these is microneedling.

At Skin Studio UK, we are proud of the range of non-surgical options that our skin clinic Surrey can offer. Including the ever-popular microneedling, which can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, scars, acne, and even stretchmarks. Making it one of our more versatile options.

Want to learn more to ascertain if microneedling is for you? Read on for answers to some of the most frequent questions that we receive at our skin clinic Surrey.

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is one of the many ways that the team at our skin clinic Surrey aims to boost the production of collagen under the skin.

As you may know, collagen is a key ingredient in reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. And it is easily stimulated by treatments such as dermal fillers and microneedling.

Microneedling, however, uses a derma stamp pen or a derma roller device, which are composed of very fine needles. They are inserted into the skin around the wrinkles, scar tissue, or acne marks and break down the scar tissue under the skin.

This leads to the formation of new skin tissue and the removal of the damaged tissue.

Will there be marks after the treatment?

There will be some mild swelling and redness for 2 to 4 days. Which should fade on its own. There may even be minor bruising around the area where the microneedling was performed, alongside blood spots. However, the latter should disappear in around 24 hours. But your skin will start looking more radiant within about 1 week post-procedure.

How often can I have it reapplied?

You may need to have this reapplied every 4-6 weeks.

But you may not need to have it reapplied this frequently. And this will vary based on your age, wrinkle depth, and the depth of any scars or stretch marks that you are having removed.

Does it hurt?

This is one of the key questions that our team is asked at the Skin Studio.

In short, it will depend on the intensity of the microneedling. If you are having deeper scars or wrinkles removed, then it is more likely to be uncomfortable. Also, if you have sensitive skin, we can apply a topical numbing cream before we begin the procedure, to ensure that you are comfortable.

If you notice extensive discomfort in the days following the procedure, please feel free to call our team for advice.

Are there any side effects?

To date, there have been no reported side effects of having microneedling performed. If you have concerns that you are experiencing side effects after you have had this treatment, please call our team and seek medical advice as soon as possible.
